Mundan, or the first cutting of a baby's hair, is known in Sanskrit as chudakarana, which relates to the Mundan ritual and the haircut. For the most part, Hindus follow ritualistic practices in which this ceremony is carried out in strict conformity with all of the set norms and regulations.
This sanskara is frequently performed after the child's first or third year of hair growth has been shaved off, leaving just the Shikha on the top of the back of the head. In certain cultures, it is believed that hair on the body is a remnant of a past incarnation, and hence should be removed. Because of these undesirable characteristics, the current pregnancy is in jeopardy. As a consequence, Mundan is being carried out in order to remove or reduce the harmful impacts of these features to the greatest extent possible.
